About Us
SUSAN YAO
CO-FOUNDER
I've been a progressive educator for 12 years, primarily in independent schools, and I'm currently the Middle School Head at Friends Academy in Dartmouth, MA. I have a BA from Harvard College and MA from Bank Street College. I have always felt that progressive schools tend to produce nice, socially aware bystanders, and we want to prepare students for lifelong action. Also, as a Buddhist parent of Abe and Maya, 4 and 7, I've wanted my children to have an education aligned with our values. We find that the dharma goes naturally with teaching for social change. As a person of color, I’m really excited to reimagine the power structures within the school as an institution as well.
